This month we highlight a great wine from the VDP auction which was held on September 19, 2014.
The 2014 VDP Mosel auction was held on September 19, 2014. A whole series of great wines are sold off at these annual Auctions You can read more about this auction in the Auction Guide 2014 - Grosser Ring (VDP)) which we published before the auction.
The Peter Lauer Estate can look back to a century-old history. However, it only joined the VDP / Grosser Ring in 2012, after having made a name of itself for great dry and off-dry wines for nearly a decade. (its 2013 collection will be reviewed in the Mosel Fine Wines Issue No 26 (Oct 2014)).
The Estate is a jack of all trades. Besides a perfect TBA, also brought a stunning Kabinett to this year's auction. This wine packed with flavors and zingy Saar acidity is a real Kabinett (and not, a Spätlese in disguise made "to impress") and offered the best value of all wines auctioned that day.
We also want to highlight this wine in the hope that more Estates "dare" bring grandiose Kabinett to the auction as these wines are great wines in their own right.

Ayler Kupp Riesling Kabinett Fass 5 (Auction)
91+
Harvested with not much more than 80° Oechsle, this real Kabinett delivers great intense flavors of yellow peach, ginger and fine spices framed by a zesty acidity and a deliciously mouth-watering feel in the finish. Thankfully, this is not a big Kabinett but a real one with gorgeous complexity and quite some development potential. We would not be surprised it this would only shine in a big decade. 2018-2028+
