This Issue includes a look-back (incl. highlights) from 2022, a sneak preview of the 2023 vintage, and the story of Red Mosel.
After having tasted 1,000 wines, many several times, we look back at the remarkably balanced 2022 vintage with the full benefit of hindsight and put forward our list of not-to-be-missed “Vintage Highlights” for each stylistic direction, i.e. dry Riesling, off-dry Riesling, Kabinett, Spätlese, Auslese, and noble-sweet wines.
What is in store for 2023? The growing conditions have been some of the wildest ever and the harvest anything but easy. Yet, the resulting wines could prove fascinating. We share here our initial thoughts.
On top of classics from great established Estates, we also unearthed some beauties from upcoming and still largely unknown new growers.
Mosel is about white only? Think again: We tell here the remarkable story of red wine in the Mosel, highlight the recent stride for quality after half a century of black out, and share tasting notes from leading growers that excel at elegance.
