This 175-page strong Issue covers Part III of our extensive 2018 Vintage Report with over 700 wines tasted from the Mosel and the whole of Germany. Here is what is in store.
2018 saw some glorious weather with essentially sunshine from April to October. But the vintage was far from easy. Never have we seen such disparity between the top growers and the rest. Some growers completely defied the ripe and round nature of the vintage and produced stellar wines. Many did however only produce very good and ripe wines.
This Part III of our vintage report covers over 15 detailed Estate Reviews(with 300 wines sampled). It also provides detailed tasting notes for another 300 recommended wines from a further 60 Estates, including from some new names we bet you have never heard of as well as most high-end dry Riesling (GG & equivalent).
2018 proved a rather contrasted vintage for dry German Riesling as growers needed to handle alcohol strength and aromatic ripeness. We highlight over 190 recommended wines from all leading German growers.
The 2019 Mosel Auctions held by the VDP and the Bernkasteler Ring yielded record high prices as well as some stunning bargains. We look back at these events and provide additional tasting notes.
We also cover the 2019 Bad Kreuznach Auction and provide detailed tasting notes for the Auction's highlights (20 wines) by some of the finest producers in Germany, including some rare dry wines as well as high-end fruity and dessert wines.
“Where can I access mature Mosel Riesling?” As an answer to this frequent question from our readers, we provide here tasting notes for recent releases of mature Riesling by leading Estates.
