This 120-page strong Issue includes Part I of our extensive 2018 Vintage Report with 500 wines from over 50 Estates. Here is what is in store.
2018 saw some glorious weather with essentially sunshine from April to October. But the vintage was far from easy. Never have we seen such disparity between the top growers and the rest. Some growers completely defied the ripe and round nature of the vintage and produced stellar wines. Many did however only produce very good and ripe wines.
Part I of the Vintage Report includes 18 detailed Estate Reviews (with 300 wines sampled). It also provides detailed tasting notes for another 200 wines from a further 35 Estates, including from some new exciting names we bet you have never heard off.
We had the chance to taste some recent releases by Georg Breuer, Keller and Philippi, the legendary winemaker behind the success of Koehler-Ruprecht.
We have been admirers of the beautiful wines of this Rheingau Estate which puts mature Riesling at the heart of its commercial approach since decades now. We had the chance to taste 25 mature beautiful Riesling currently available earlier this year.
After a background article on Sekt published in the Mosel Fine Wines Issue No 30 (Mar 2016), we have sampled some stunning new releases over the last few months, including some of the finest Sekt ever.
Wines made without or with minimal added sulfites are becoming ever so popular in parts of the wine scene. We enjoy these wines thoroughly and made a special effort this spring to comb through the Mosel region to unearth over 20 beauties ... from known and completely unknown growers!
