As every year, we released a "Vade-Mecum" with detailed tasting notes and all relevant information to this upcoming Auction on Sep 16. Here some further information.
The Grosser Ring / VDP Mosel has been holding an annual Auction almost every year since its creation in 1909.
At these auction events, member Estates offer some of their finest casks of wine on sale. Except for some mature rarities, auction wines are different from the ones sold via regular channels. These are typically made from particularly privileged parts of a vineyard, from very old vines or from particularly ruthless grape selections.
Auction wines often form a pinnacle of Mosel Riesling. Most of our greatest Mosel wine memories have nearly all come from auction wines (for those Estates that are members).
You can learn more about these Auctions, auction wines and how to participate in this Introduction to the Annual Trier Wine Auctions.
The 2016 edition of the Grosser Ring / VDP Mosel Auction will take place on September 16, 2016. At this occasion, the following member Estates will offer some special casks of Kabinett, Spätlese and Auslese from the great 2015 vintage:
As you see, the list of participants also includes the Weingut von Schubert, which joined the VDP Mosel this year. It will auction off special casks of 2015er Kabinett and Spätlese.
In addition to 2015 wines, the Weingut Joh. Jos. Prüm will auction off its 2005er Graacher Himmelreich Riesling TBA.
Ever since we started, we have been publishing a detailed “Vade-Mecum" to the Grosser Ring / VDP Mosel Auction with detailed tasting notes of the wines on offer as well as all relevant information for attending and / or bidding ahead of the Auction.
The Vade-Mecum to the Grosser Ring / VDP Mosel Auction 2016 was sent to subscribers together with the Auction Guide 2016.
