May 3, 2014 | News | Wines of the Month
This month, we want to highlight one of the great off-dry wines of the 2012 vintage.
Weingut Selbach-Oster is one of the best-known names in the Mosel, having turned out great fruity-styled wines year-in year-out for decades now.
Yet, we feel that the Estate made a quantum leap in terms of quality in its dry and off-dry portfolio of Riesling in 2012. In particular, the Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese Feinherb "Ur" Alte Reben proves a superb success and one of the great off-dry wines in the vintage!
The stunning 2012 collection by Selbach-Oster was reviewed in Mosel Fine Wines Issue No 23 (Oct 2013).

Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese Feinherb "Ur" Alte Reben

This wine was made from very old vines ("ur-alte" means extremely old) situated in Kackert, one of the best parcels in the Sonnenuhr which had been the pride of the historic Freiherr von Schorlemer Estate for nearly a century. The wine immediately impresses one with a silky and refined nose of orchard fruits, grapefruit and fine spices. The feel on the palate is intense, yet superbly multi-layered and the finish is just so elegant and fresh. This is a real little stunner in the making and one which could gain from some bottle age. 2014-2022+
